Evaluating Institutional Structures through the Indigenous Determinants of Health Measurement Instrument: complying with the UNDRIP and Cultural Safety (UNPFII Side Event).
This Side event will review and summarize the study entitled: "Evaluating Institutional Structures to Improve the Health and Wellness of Indigenous Peoples Globally: The Indigenous Determinants of Health Measurement Instrument".
This event will feature four presentations and a discussion section. Speakers will elaborate on the four systemic areas covered in the IDH Scorecard, which aims to evaluate: (a) how effectively institutional policies address distinct risks and protective factors Indigenous communities face and (b) whether relevant stakeholders are prepared to uphold the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in meaningful ways. Speakers will also discuss how this instrument extends the scope beyond health institutions, to encompass governance systems, environmental stewardship, and community well-being; as well as how the study underscores the need for transparent, accountable, and reliable mechanisms that align their work to commitments in terms of Indigenous health and wellbeing.
